PIMS - PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT REPORTING

PIMS delivers the extensive reporting required by operational and executive level managers  and is readily available throughout PIMS.

This section  focuses primarily on the important areas of Winder, Scale and Labelling, Quality Control and Customer Complaint Monitoring

Winder

PIMS displays the current production schedule at the winder workstation in the priority established by Production Planning.  Grades, sets, tons, and width maximums are available at all times.  The operator selects the trim and line combination, and the jumbo reel used.  PIMS records the TAPPI numbers, lineal measure footage, splices and exact diameters, for each trim line and set.

Substandard or off-prime production can be identified during QC testing or at the individual roll winding stage.   PIMS tracks the problem classification and maintains a make-up pool of rolls for re-scheduling.

Scale & Labelling

PIMS automatically sequences the winder information  to coincide with the roll arrival at the scale.  The weight is recorded using the scale interface and a label printed.  Labels are produced in your format...for example, with bar-coded TAPPI number as well as roll and order markings.  PIMS groups the rolls by trailer for shipment, according to destination, weight, dimension, and vehicle capacity.  The load code is printed on the tag for easy staging at the shipping dock.  Rolls not destined for immediate shipment can be assigned a warehouse location, either before or after production.  PIMS reports include:

Daily Reeler Report – details reel production by shift, with trim efficiency and grade recaps.
Production Summary Reportanalyzes production for each grade, indicating tons and rolls for prime, substandard, and BTP paper categories according to shift and crew.
Production by Customer Report - summarizes production by individual customer and order/price point.
Graphical Substandard Analysis - recaps substandard production by reason code and crew, for any date span, in bar graph and pie chart presentations.

For substandard (off-prime) production identified during QC testing or at the roll winding stage, PIMS tracks the problem classification and maintains a make up pool of rolls for re-scheduling.

Quality Control

QC standards are established and entered by machine and grade with target values and min/max tolerances for each property tested. The

values measured in the lab are recorded in PIMS and compared to

the standard.  Deviations are flagged.

PIMS supports on-line data capture from QC equipment (such as QIS Valmet) and web-scanning devices (such as Accuray or Measurex) This information becomes an integral part of the roll history profile.  PIMS  further provides:

Daily QC Logs – detailed lab, machine and scanning data by reel for any  current or prior dates.

QC History by Grade - reports statistics on various measurements over any range of dates and/or jumbo numbers.

Computer Generated Quality Certificates with customer specific parameters.

 Customer Complaint Monitoring

The PIMS Customer Complaint Tracking module is used for recording and following-up customer complaints.  PIMS tracks management of the quality criteria and return authorization process.  Complaint details are entered into PIMS along with follow-up notes and associated expenses where applicable.  Credit authorization is generated and return rolls posted to inventory.  Complaint statistics are maintained by PIMS for on- demand reporting analysis. PIMS documents:

▪  Significant Process Changes - It allows you to record/view changes by mill and grade, reason for change, personnel involved.
Customer Complaint Entry - PIMS provides a log by customer, nature of complaint, CTS rep assigned, roll numbers involved, system generated complaint number.

Complaint Follow-up  CTS Representative  accesses complaint by internal PIMS complaint number or by customer's reference number.  Records responses, comments, reasons, dates, method of contact (tracks expenses incurred if visit to a customer location), credit approval and amount, if applicable.  Prints authorization for return grades.

Complaint Performance Report - This report lists complaints and documents follow-up history by CTS representatives.

▪  Returned Paper Process History - This report references PIMS' complaint number, records receiving date, disposition (e.g. returned to stock), roll data, salvage dollars and freight costs.

In addition to the standard Credit/Debit Memo generation by customer, there are several time saving features built into PIMS for retrieving invoicing and pricing history :

Returned Rolls - PIMS calculates the credit amount  based on roll numbers.

Retroactive Price Adjustments - PIMS makes this simple...the customer PO and retroactive ship date range are selected. The pertinent invoices are selected and displayed and the price change per ton is then entered. PIMS automatically calculates debit or credit amount makes the necessary adjustments while documenting the transaction.
